RIP - Jeff Beck
Johnny Depp played a Fender Esquire at the Jeff Beck tribute. One of the replicas of Jeff's guitar, which he used with the Yardbirds since 1965. Through intensive use and personal editing, the original acquired its characteristic appearance. By the way, Johnny's copy says "To Broadsword from Danny Boy". A reference to the film "Where Eagles Dare" .
This unique Duesenberg signature guitar was commissioned by Johnny in May 2019 to be duplicated and presented as a birthday gift to his good friend Jeff Beck, who was thrilled with it when he first played it. The model was originally presented at Namm 2014 as a limited edition of 52 models, played and signed by Johnny himself.
The #1 is and remains his personal guitar, the only one with a Duesenberg tremolo (tremolo = lever on the tailpiece of the guitar that can be used to create special sound effects). Nathan Fawley of Duesenberg USA, who handled the special request for Jeff, had kept a spare body and top from the original production run for potential damage, making a duplicate outside of the original edition possible. It was assembled at the Duesenberg factory in Hanover and then delivered to Johnny. It is now one of two existing models with a Duesenberg tremolo.
When this guitar was also auctioned off at Christies on January 22, 2025, it achieved a price of 36,160 euros. In total, Jeff's guitars (including guitars such as his Anoushka, the Oxblood and the one signed by Tina Turner) fetched 10.3 million euros.
