„I think if you are a “lifer” in the music business you are bound to have ups and downs. The way you deal with it can become your recreation and rebirth“
-Chris Wyse
"We are looking to much outside and not inside ourselves this days."
-Chris Wyse
Chris Wyse, who is of Irish descent, was born on July 15, 1969 in Queens, NY. During his primary school years, he listened to bands such as Kiss and The Doors. He was a fan of Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) from an early age. Through him, he developed the desire to become a bass player.
His talent for playing bass was discovered in high school. Chris played in various New York bands (Xodus, East Wall and Mr. Strange). Chris was already described as an exceptional talent at an early age.
In 1990 he moved to Los Angeles and worked with Chris Pitman, Paul D'Amour and the producer Bob Rock.
He later worked in Los Angeles with supergroups such as Camp Freddy and Cardboard Vampyres and played bass and sang backing vocals for Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell's solo project.
It was through working with Bob Rock that he met Buck Johnson and Ryan Roxie. It was also Bob Rock who brought Chris Wyse and The Cult together.
On November 1, 2005, "Under Cover" by Ozzy Osborne was released and Chris was the bass player.
"I remember I was living with Jerry (Cantrell - guitarist) at the time and Ozzy sent us CDs with letters thanking us for recording his album. I thought that was really nice," says Chris.
Other music greats such as Kiss and Mick Jagger also appreciate his innovative playing and Chris Wyse has become an integral part of the music industry.
Through his collaboration with Glen Sobel and Tommy Henriksen, Chris also joined the Hollywood Vampires, where he now has a permanent position as bassist. Chris Wyse also works with Crossbone Skully.
"So I made some recordings, which made their way to Mike Varney, who wrote some very nice things about me. He said I was one of the finest two-hand tappers he'd ever heard - which was amazing as I was only 17, and I'd been playing for just three years. It was like the gods had confirmed my intuition was right."

In 1999, Chris played bass on Tal Bachmann's album. The song "She's so high" was a hit. Chris brought some of his own bass ideas into the songs.
“Anyway, I remember Tal’s demos featured some different stuff, so I took some chances by playing some riffs more melodically, and they loved it. The big thing was that I worked hard to respect the song – make it pop and create excitement.
2003 Chris was at a Metallica audition which was used in the metallica movie “Some Kind of Monster”. He was the very last audition of a handful bassists and Bob Rock’s only really suggestion to the band. Chris says he was very comfortable knowing and working with Bob for several years on records.
Back in 2001, Chris played for The Cult - Ian Astbury's hard rock band - on their album "Beyond Good and Evil". However, he only became the band's regular bassist in 2006, the same year the band made their big comeback and went on tour. Among other things, they played as support acts for the legendary "The Who". Chris recorded the following two albums with The Cult. He left the band in 2015.

Hollywood Press Corps:
"What is one thing that would surprise people to know about you?"
Chris Wyse: "I do Yoga and I’m still striving in my bass playing, singing and writing to always get better. I am going back to some of my sonatas from Vivaldi lately with the bow. There are two bows for upright bass. I play German preferred over French bow but play both. I have been teaching bass guitar and upright bass with in depth theory and techniques. It keeps me sharp and open to other peoples taste."

Chris and his fellow musicians Eric Bradley and Ryan Brown form a trio in 2023 to make acoustic music together. They play their first gig together on April 28, 2024 in Hollywood Guitar Center Los Angeles. Over the course of the year, Mad Day Out has released the singles "Psycho Killer" and "Hey You" via various streaming services. Both songs are, of course, acoustic versions of the original hits.
Thank you Chris Wyse for the follow on Instagram. It means a lot!
